I have finally decided to migrate the website from GeoCities anther ISP. In related news, I have also registered 24th-michigan.org as a domain. At the moment there is only a "place holder" at that address which refers surfers back to the Geocities site. In the near future, however, 24th-michigan.org will become an alternate gateway to the website. Ultimately, I will reverse the relationship, and with the geocities site merely referring visitors to the 24th-michigan.org location. I am also planning a revised "look and feel" for the new location. Obviously, all of this will take some time to achieve. I have been known to procrastinate on occaison, so be patient.
At some unspecified future date, I will also begin using robr@24th-michigan.org for email. It may be possible to offer other interested parties an email address at the new domain. It would not be free, however. I'm sure my ISP would charge something.... I'll announce details as they become available.
Well, I have returned to Michigan after an absence of 12 years. I am now living in a the small city of Marysville. This in the area in which I grew up, and while I do miss Texas, it is very good to be home. When I have a chance, I'll update the "About the Author" page to reflect my new situation. In the meantime, however, I am going to focus on the suject at hand, the boys and men of the 24th Michigan.
As many of you may have noticeed, it has been several months since I last updated this site. There were factors that lead to my being over-committed personally. I have really missed the website, and the 24th. Well, I am happy to announce that I allieviated the situation somewhat and that I will now resume my previous habit of updating the site several times per week.
In other housekeeping details, I have have been having real problems with GeoCities lately. Some of you may have noticed that this website sometimes displays advertising. Since I have no control whatsoever over this, I am very dissatisfied. Please be aware that I do not endorse any advertising that appears on this site. I am seriously considering changing to a local provider to host the site. The work necessary to do this and to notify the web at large of the change is very daunting. GeoCities hasn't quite pushed me over the edge yet, but may soon.
In a similar vein, I have been having trouble with email in the past few months. When I moved back to Michigan, I decided to change over to GeoCities email thinking that it would follow me. Unfortunately GeoCities mail has been very inconsistent. Some corporations and ISP's have set their mail protocols so that mail to and from a Geocities address is rejected. Again, I have very little direct control over the situation. Although I hate to do this, I have again changed my email address.
Please note the change in email: robr@advnet.net
I can still recieve mail through the robr@advnet.net address, but cannot guarranty its safe delivery. be aware that I can no longer recieve correspondence through the old email address, (robr@advnet.net). If you have sent any email to which I have not promptly responded, please, please try the new email. Despite the huge nature of the task, I'll be changing every page to the new address shortly.
