The Final Muster
The muffled drum's sad roll has beat
The soldier's last tattoo'
No more on life's parade shall meet
That brave and fallen few;
On Fame's eternal camping ground
Their silent tents are spread;
But Glory guards with solemn round
The bivouac of the dead.
--- Theodore O'Hara, 1847
All the men and boys of the 24th Michigan are gone now. They
have all passed on to the Final Muster. This section of the website
is devoted to thier last resting places. It is our duty and obligation
to remember these honored dead. That is the true spirit of Memorial
Day.

- Nor Shall their glory be forgot while fame her records keeps,
- Or honor points the hallowed spot, where valor proudly sleeps
- Nor wreck, nor change, nor winter's blight, nor time's remorseless
doom,
- Can dim one ray of holy light that gilds their glorious tomb.
- No more the bugle calls the weary ones;
- rest noble spirits in thy graves alone;
- We'll find you among the good and true,
- Where robes of white are given for our faded coats of blue.
