Tracing Your Ancestor in the 24th

Parish Family Reunion - Photo Taken Sometime Between 1905 and 1910. Barnard is the 4th adult from the left on the bottom row. John is seated to the right of Barnard. Both served in the 24th Michigan.

Because of numerous requests, I have decided to create a page to help people find out more about their ancestor in the Regiment. There is quite a bit of material out there, if you only have the patience to look. I'm going to use this page to point out some of the more obvious and easily accessible places to look. This page is still under construction, and I would welcome any comments or suggestions.

I do not consider myself a genealogist, at least not yet. My background in historical archaeology has, however, given me a great deal of experience working with historical records and documents. I am just beginning to learn how to do real genealogical research. Fortunately one of the other descendants of the 24th has graciously written an introduction to the subject.

Since my focus is on the Regiment as a whole and not on any particular soldier, I really depend on contributions to produce detailed biographies for the Featured Soldiers section. I welcome contributions of any sort and will give full credit to the researcher!
