Illianna Rasputain, younger sister of the X-men's former metalic might, Collosus, was kidnapped by the demonic sorcerer, Belsco, to the otherworldly relm of Limbo. Seven years were spent there where Illianna learned magic both black and white, eventualy comming to fordge her Soul Sword using it to defeat Belsco, but recignizing the cost to her soul if she did, not kill him. Thus, Illianna became Magik, reluctant ruler of Limbo. Returning to Earth through the stepping disks of Limbo which she controlled, Magik returned a mere moment after she had left to her, 7 long years earlier. Joining the New Mutants, Illianna began a long struggle with the darkness within her, which seemingly ended in the conclusion to the Inferno story line where she sacrificed her power to clsoe the gate between earth and limbo.
