Back in her earlier days at Xavier's, Kitty was the roomate and best friend of Collous's little sister, Illianna (Magik). They were so close that whenever something happened to cause Illianna to lose her magikal abilities, the SoulSword, the focus of these powers, were mysteriously transfered to Kitty. untill the promithium exchange storyline in excalibur where it turned from something made from a part of Illianna's soul to jsut another magic sword that's up for grabbs for whomever wants it most.
