Part Two
The next time Angel and Buffy saw each other was some time later at the Bronze. Buffy had been hanging out with Xander and Willow when she spotted Angel across the room.
She murmured, “I don’t believe it!” before leaving Xander’s side and walking over to Angel.
Buffy said quite snarkily, “Well, look who’s here,” when she got up to him.
Angel, smiling, said, “Hi.”
Buffy replied sarcastically, “I would say it’s nice to see you, but then we’d both know that’s a big fib.”
Angel’s smile disappeared with that biting remark. He said rather dejectedly, “I won’t be long.”
Buffy, still derisively, replied, “No, You’ll just give me a cryptic warning about some exciting new catastrophe and then disappear into the night, right?”
“You’re cold.”
“You can take it.”
Angel got an exasperated look on his face before saying, “I *mean*, you *look* cold.”
He then proceeded to take off his black, leather jacket and wrap it around her bare shoulders.
Buffy shrugged further into the warm leather before saying, “It’s a little big on me.” When she looked up, she noticed some pretty big slashes on Angel’s now bare arm. Angel noticed her curious gaze and moved his arm away.
“What happened?” Buffy asked.
“I didn’t pay attention.”
Buffy joked, “To someone with a big fork?”
Angel said very seriously, “He’s coming.”
Buffy replied, “The fork guy.”
“Don’t let him corner you. *Don’t* give him a moments mercy. He’ll rip your throat out.”
Buffy shrugged, saying, “OK, I’ll give you improved marks for that one...ripping the throat out...It’s a strong visual, It’s not cryptic.”
Angel glanced around, saying, “I have to go.” He walked away, leaving Buffy with a lot of questions and a leather jacket.
Buffy said partially to herself, “Sweet dreams to you too.”
Buffy, with Giles’ help, went on to discover that ‘Fork Guy’ was actually a vampire that had cut off his hand in penance and replaced it with a “jumbo claw.” She killed the vampire after using it to find a huge Praying Mantis (which is a whole other story.)
Later, Buffy was chillin’ at the Bronze’s bar when Angel walked up to her, smiling.
He said, “I heard a rumor there was one less vampire roaming the streets, making a nuisance of himself.”
Buffy replied, “There is. Guess I should thank you for the tip.”
Angel smiled, saying, “Pleasure’s mine.”
He walked to the other side of her as she searched for something to say. As he turned back to her, she said, “Well, you can have your jacket back.” She was still wearing the leather jacket he had given her earlier.
Still smiling, he replied, “No, no...It looks better on you.”
He walked away, sparing one last glance behind him before disappearing into the crowd.
When he was gone, Buffy exclaimed, “Oh Boy!”
Some time later, Buffy was on a date with a boy named Owen from her school. He had just gone to get her something to eat when Angel walked in. He walked right past Cordelia, who took an interest in him (saying, “Whoa, Hello Salty Goodness! Pick up that phone and dial 911. That boy is gonna need some serious oxygen when I’m through with him.”)
Angel looked around until he spotted Buffy standing near the stairs. He walked up to her and said, “Buffy,” in a soft voice.
She, in turn, said, “Angel,” in the same voice.
Angel told her, “I was hoping I’d find you here.”
Buffy got a delighted look on her face, “You were?”
“There’s some serious stuff happening tonight. You need to be out there.”
Buffy’s face went from delighted to angry, “No, not you too.” She attempted to walk away, but was halted by Angel’s hand on her arm.
He asked her angrily, “What do you know?”
She quipped, “Prophesy, Anointed One, Yaddy Yaddy Yadda.”
“OK, so you know. I just thought I’d warn you.”
“Warn me,” she moved, motioning to Owen who was standing by the bar, “You see that guy over there? He came here to be with me.”
Angel got a jealous look on his face when he saw Owen, “You’re here on a date?”
She turned to him, exclaiming, “Yes! Why is that such a shock to everyone?”
Owen chose that time to return, bearing a muffin for Buffy. Everyone stood there awkwardly until Buffy made introductions, “Owen, this is Angel. Angel, this is Owen, who is my date.” To prove her point, she put her arm around Owen’s waist.
Angel looked at Buffy for a moment before looking up at Owen and saying simply, “Hey.”
Owen replied with his own, “Hey,” before asking, “So...where do you know Buffy from?”
“Work.”
Owen asked Buffy, “You work?”
Just then, Willow and Xander ran up, breathing heavily. Owen observed the two, saying, “Look at this. You two show up everywhere. Interesting.”
Xander replied, “You don’t know the half of it. What’s he doing her,” he asked Buffy, referring to Angel.
Angel took the liberty of answering, “My guess is the same thing you’re doing here.”
Buffy interrupted their dialogue, “Excuse me, what are *any* of you doing here?”
Xander replied, “We’ve got to get to- uhhh,” Willow elbowed him in the ribs to stop him from saying what he was about to say. He modified it a little and continued, “We thought it would be fun if we made this a double date.” He wrapped his arms around Willow, who tried not to look too excited.
Buffy said with a confused look on her face, “I didn’t know you guys were seeing each other.”
Willow replied, “Oh yeah. We knew it would happen eventually, so we said - Hey! Why fight it?”
Owen asked, “And you guys were thinking double?”
Xander replied, “Cause of, THE FUN!!!”
Owen turned to Angel, who had been silent through all of this, “And you’re here because of work?”
Xander interrupted, saying, “Hey, maybe we could all go somewhere together.”
Buffy replied, “Gee, that’s so nice of you to ask but Owen and I were, well, sort of Owen and I.” She grabbed Owen and started to leave.
Xander put in, “You know what would be cool? The Sunnydale Funeral Home.”
Willow added, “I’ve always wanted to *go* there.”
Buffy asked, even more confused, “The funeral home?”
Owen said, “Actually, that sounds kind of cool! Do you think we could all sneak in?”
Xander nodded, saying, “We saw some guys in there before. They seemed to be having *fun*.”
Buffy finally got there message and exclaimed, “Bite Me!!”
She looked at Angel, who was staring at her sternly, then turned to Owen, saying, “Owen, I’ve gotta go.”
Owen took Buffy aside where they discussed her wanting to leave and how she would come back as Xander, Willow, and Angel watched. She turned to leave, but then came back to Owen and gave him a kiss.
Angel walked up to Owen and they both watched Buffy leave. Owen said to Angel, “She’s the strangest Girl.”
