Wanda served as a loyal member of the Avengers for many months until Quicksilver forced her to return to Magneto with him. Though the master of magnetism was defeated, the Scarlet Witch did not immediately return to the Avengers. She, Pietro, and the Toad led a life of wandering until Wanda was abducted by the other-dimensional warrior monarch named Arkon.
In addition to her family problems, Wanda had become troubled by the unpredictable nature of her hex power. For help she turned to sorcery and the witch Agatha Harkness. Complete control would always elude her, but she learned a great deal and forged an excellent relationship with Agatha.
When the search for the Celestial Madonna began, Wanda found herself as one of the candidates along with fellow Avengers Mantis and Moondragon. It was during this strange adventure that Vision discovered what he thought was his origin and proposed to the Scarlet Witch.
Meanwhile, Mantis was chosen as the Celestial Madonna. She was married to a member of an alien race during a double wedding ceremony with Vision and Wanda performed by Immortus, ruler of the timeless Limbo.
She and her husband remained with the Avengers, but she returned to her homeland of Transia with Pietro when her adopted father showed up very much alive and well. It was there that a deadly secret from her past awaited her.
