Magneto created the Brotherhood in order to achieve his ultimate goal -- world supremacy by homo superior (mutants). Saving Pietro and Wanda Maximoff from an angry mob of villagers, they were his first recruits for his team. They served him due to this debt and from fear. When Magneto was abducted by the alien Stranger they left the group and joined the Avengers.
The original members of the Brotherhood included: Magneto, the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Toad, and Mastermind (not pictured).
