The Hirogen

The Hirogen are an extremely agressive and dangerous humanoid species from the Delta Quadrant. The Hirogen were the owners of a 100,000 year old relay system that stretched across the Gamma and Delta Quadrants. The arrays used small black holes as energy sources. The Voyager crew used the array to send the Doctor to the Alpha Quadrant in order to tell Starfleet that they were still alive. The Hirogen were very angry at Voyager1s crew for using the array. A little while later Starfleet sent Voyager letters from loved ones and top secret information. In order to get all of the information and letters Voyager had to travel to the array. On their way to the array they found an empty ship. One person was aboard, but he was dead. He had been gutted. The crew later found out that the Hirogen were responsible. Seven and Tuvok took a shuttle to the array to modulate the shields so Voyager could download the letters easier. While on the shuttle a Hirogen vessel disabled the shuttle and captured Tuvok and Seven. Voyager found the shuttle with no one aboard. The Hirogen would not negotiate. The Hirogen leader planned to take out Seven1s intestine because it was an unusual relic and would make him evied by men and pursued by women. While trying to defend Voyager from the Hirogen the crew accidentally exposed the black hole that the array was using. All Hirogen vessels were sucked inside. Seven and Tuvok were rescued though. The exposure of the black hole rendered all of the relays across the galaxy useless. Tuvok later told Janeway that the Hirogen have no moral center and should be considered extremely dangerous. He also said that the Hirogen would not be happy about the destruction of the relays. It is still unkown about why the Hirogen found the array so valuable. The Hirogen keep the remains of their prey as trophies. Their whole life revolves around the hunt. The Hirogen once went after a Species 8472 bioship. The Hirogen vessel was heavily damaged. The Doctor saved the Hirogen and he hehelped the crew hunt down the Species 8472 alien. Seven of Nine beamed the Hirogen and the Species 8472 alien onto a Hirogen vessel so Voyager could escape. The Hirogen usually hunt their prey alone or in groups. The Hirogen1s weaponry is superior to Voyager's. The Hirogen vessels have a special kind of plating that makes it hard to get a lock on their ships. A group of Hirogen once took over Voyager. They used implants to make the crew believe that they were whoever they were programmed to be. They then hunted the crew in different holographic simulations including World War II, The Crusades, and a Klingon battle. This hunting went on for three weeks. The Doctor, Harry Kim, and Ashmore, remained to repair the ship and heal the wounded. Several crewmembers were killed in these simulations, since the safeties were off. The Doctor found a way to deactivate the implants and the crew regained their memories. Janeway talked to the Hirogen leader. He said that he wanted to create a better future for his people by simulating the hunt. Then the Hirogen wouldn't have to run around the quadrant and they could focus on bringing together their people. The leader was assassinated by his first in command. Janeway was able to kill the Hirogen first. After the Voyager crew retook the ship, Janeway gave the remaining Hirogen some holodeck technology and they went their seperate ways. Voyager was severly damaged as a result of the takeover.
