NEW ORLEANS CLASS FRIGATE
This class of Federation starship was first mentioned in the Star Trek: The Next Generation first season episode "Conspiracy". In the episode, the New Orleans class frigates USS Renegade (NCC-63102) and USS Thomas Paine (NCC-65530) were in orbit of Dytallix B with the Galaxy class heavy cruiser USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) and the Ambassador class heavy cruiser USS Horatio (NCC-10532).
The USS Kyushu (NCC-65491) was the first New Orleans class frigate to actually appear on Star Trek: The Next Generation during "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II", the premiere episode of the fourth season. The wreckage of the Kyushu was noted by Commander Elizabeth Shelby when the Enterprise-D arrived at the starship graveyard following the Battle of WOLF 359.
The USS Rutledge (NCC-57295) was a New Orleans class frigate discussed in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Wounded". The ship was commanded by Captain Benjamin Maxwell with tactical petty officer Miles O'Brien during the Federation-Cardassian War.
Other starships of this design have appeared in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "A Call to Arms" and in the battle sequence between Starfleet and the Borg at the beginning of the movie Star Trek: First Contact.
