Recon tends to be a necessary part of every Shadowrun. When you are part of a small team and need to do a fair amount of reconnaisance, then purchasing some type of drone is mandatory. When my team runs, I always find that half the part gets injured bad enough during the recon, that the run becomes just that much harder for us to complete and still bring down a profit.
I've created/selected several types of drones that would suit a runner
or mercenary character perfectly. Some of these drones are expensive and
for use by the military (or those crafty enough to take them off of the
military).
| Developed and used by the Aztlan Security forces for border patrol
duties. This drone has become popular with other military forces, including
the UCAS and the CAS. The NAN have yet to purchase this particular drone.
This drone is capable of long range flight and carrying military grade sensors. It can mount two hardpoints. This drone has rearward folding wings, and requires 200 CF to store in a vehicle. It is a STOL vehicle. In addition to sensors and weapons, this drone has also been equipped as a communications platform thats sensors relay information into BattleTech hardware. |

Unlike most drones, which are operated by remote control, this one
has an Artificial Intelligence that can respond to normal voice commands
and report engagements. The riggers function is to initiate flight and
give instructions via voice or datajack. The drone can be given a mission
to complete and then the rigger can jack out. The AI will complete the
mission to the best of it's ability. The drone is approximately half the
size of a standard fighter and can mount four hardpoints.
These drones require the same maintenance of a standard fighter jet. The Rigger will need to have the appropriate drone skill plus the required piloting skill of a STOL fighter or winged plane. |

|
|
| Designed and developed for use in exploring underwater. This particular
model is capable of diving to depths of 5 miles and relay information via
sensors and cameras. It is the fastest of it's series.
This model does not mount any weapons, but can mount up to level three sensors.

The Conal 4 Bomber was developed for delivering various types of propaganda
to front line enemy soldiers. It's uses have become vast over the years.
With the planes durability and ability carry heavy payloads, several corporations
use this drone to deliver chemical agents and even small bomblets over
specified targets.
As a peaceful drone, this one can act as a flying sensor platform and relay station. It's high signature generally makes it a hard target, but it's ability to fly at greater altitudes ensures it from even being picked as a target to begin with. The drone has also been used to deliver small packages into otherwise
hard to reach areas. The packages are generally airdropped over a specific
location.

| This is the most popular reconnaisance drone used by the UCAS. It's
extremely high signature makes it virtually impossible to locate, while
it's efficient sensor array let's it see and relay information to the rigger
in control.
This drone is VTOL and capable of water landings. It can mount one firmpoint
on each wing.

For all practical purposes this is nothing more than a rigger controlled
missle. It does mount sensors and a HMG in the nose. These drones are generally
used by corporations that keep a degree of air defense nearby their buildings.
The rigger simply flies several of these around and if he has to engage
a jet or helicopter he can lock on and the Guardian acts as if it were
an Intelligent AAM. The HMG can be used to warn off people that are getting
to close, or to do additional damage before the drone strikes the aircraft
it intends to destroy.

YP-22 ATV Initially these were intended to be utilized by corporations for attack drones used to protect secured areas. They are approximately 2 meters in length and able to mount one hardpoint. It's fuel consumption and low manueverability made it less than efficient
for corporate use, but it has found a following with the runner community.
