I have ADD. This does not mean that I bounce around on my head (at least not all the time!).
Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder is a mild disability, also known as a learning disability. It affects a person's ability to stay focused and not be distracted. Other attributes of a person with ADD are impulsivity, bouncing from job to job, inability to stay on task, temper flashes, chronicdisorganization, procrastination, and difficulty with interpersonal (and romantic) relationships.
A person who has ADD can lead a very happy and successful life if he or she is treated properly (this does not necessarily mean medication) and if he or she becomes aware of the disability's nature and develops coping skills. Equally important, a person with ADD needs plenty of support from people who care about him or her. This disability can be quite a roller-coaster ride!
On this page, I share some of my experiences as
a person with ADD, as well as some strategies I have used to cope with living
in a world that is ADD-hostile. I have also collected some resources that
are helpful in learning about Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity)
Disorder and learning how to cope with the disability. I hope these links are
helpful to others too.
