Found your site while surfing for some good lesson plan ideas for my Kindergarten class. We are doing a whole month of Space and I was running a little low on ideas to keep me going through the end of the month. I like the Space unit you have your site. I plan to use some of those great ideas next week. My class had a real good time making space shuttles out of the small sunny delight juice bottles and some cardboard I cut out of some old pizza boxes. I used some small strips along side of the bottle to re nforce the bottle in glueing and cut out a small tail piece and put it through a small slit I made at the bottom of the bottle. These shuttles turned out great, the kids loved them and It reinforced what we had been studying about the space shuttle. Thank a lot for your unselfish dedication to the field of teaching by helping out us rookies. I don't know what I'd do without all the great websites like yours that keep me in fresh ideas. I found this web site quiet by accident. I could not stop, I just had to explore every thing. I love Math There Way and I see that you do to. Nothing can come close. Have yoou tried counting pennies each day and turning the pennies into nickles and nickels into dimes? It's a good way to get Kinder students to undeerstand and identify the differ nt coins. I do it every day until we reach 100 Day then we turn the coins into a $1.00. At the end of the year we have a White Elephant Sale and the children have to make their own change. I've copied all of your "stuff" on your site and am passing it on to my daughter and to my August Experience student coming over from OSU next month. Hope you're having a great summer. We were in McDonal County this past weekend for a family visit. I miss that country sooo much! My husband and I are doing work on our family genealogy, so we visit the Peel Museum/Historic Library in Bentonville often and do some exploring of cemetaries. My family is f om Southwest City and his from Northwest Arkansas. To note your questions about favorites: In children's books, I love "Old Turtle"...I love to read any Dr. Seuss to my children...I love the illustrations in "Wee Mouse". I love "The Stinky Cheese Man" (it's a bit over the head of most 1st Graders, but t ose who are thinking beyond really find it fun. I don't always read it to my little ones, but sometimes to those who are "waiting for the late bus to get here"! :o) I've noticed some items on the mailring about "Leo the Late Bloomer"...I love that one, too. What do you think about Jan Brett's books? I think the lady is talented, but my children find it hard to follow them...illustrations so detailed to get clarity hen sitting in a floor group. I think they are wonderful "lap books"..reading to one child at a time, but I find it hard to keep my children's interest much of the time. Addie, when you have time (??? :o))could you give me some reference to sites or publications which would help me in grant writing? I want to do something with gardening in my classroom. Our school site does not lend itself to outdoor planting (but I'm w lling to create and explore!) and we have had alot of vandalism (creative spray painting and windows broken)...I just don't know what would last outside and what wouldn't, but I know there are many teaching unit things I can/or could do with gardening (gr w labs inside,etc.)/ I know the American Gardening Assoc. has lots of resources, but I would like to write a grant to fund these things...Lots of $ to do it right. I have looked at your site several times but never took the time to sign your guestbook. Last year was my first year of teaching although I am 43 and was a teacher's aide for 5 years before that.
