(jstrimm@swbell.net)

B. POSTING TO THE LIST

1. "Reply" function of mailing programs
Please DO NOT USE THE REPLY function on your email's software when replying to the entire list. Mail software varies widely and unless your program can be set to send replies BOTH to the original sender AND to the list address, be careful to address your response EITHER to the list OR to the original sender OR to both. Unless you are careful about this, your response may go astray.

D. NETIQUETTE:

1. Respectful discourse: Those who participate in the conference represent a wide range of perspectives. If discussion of this nature is to succeed, proper respect and courtesy to other list members is important. While scholarly debate, including disagreement, is encouraged as a goal of this conference, attacks upon the character or intelligence of those participating are not acceptable. Criticism must focus upon the arguments of others; it may not be directed to the individual. Those who violate this policy will be contacted politely by the epigraphy staff and requested to conform to these guidelines. Those who continue to violate the policy will no longer be welcome in the conference.

2. It is considered to be in very poor taste to post to the list items that have been sent off list. Before doing so always consult the author to see if this is acceptable. Complaints from authors of messages that have been posted to the list without their consent will be reviewed by the BG Staff and appropriate action will be taken, if necessary.

3. No advertisements or job-postings are allowed without the approval of the list-owner, James Trimm <jstrimm@swbell.net>. Please clear your requests before posting. Those directly related to the subject matter of the list will probably be approved.

4. Signatures: It is a courtesy expected of subscribers that messages should indicate, at least in the "From" header, the personal name as well as the e-address, or else should at least sign their posts with personal names. Indications of the locality from which they write would help personalize further for others the sender of a message. Academic or institutional information may be appended also, but there is no privilege associated with any academic or institutional status so-indicated.

PARTICIPANTS ARE KINDLY ASKED TO:

a) Use diplomatic speech and avoid offensive language or *raunchy* jockularity

b) Tolerate differences of opinions and ideas

c) Completely avoid badmouthing another member of the list

d) Refrain from proselytizing or pushing belief system on others

e) Keep posts to a maximum of 12K.

f) If your message does not relate to the epigraphy forum topic then don't post it here.

g) No cross posting. If you must post something to epigraphy forum and another list then do so separately.

h) Always keep in mind Epigraphy Forum is intended to be an academicly serious list. Always act in a profesional manner.

Also, Courtesy urges:
- If you wish to print out and present the postings for information to non-members as learning tools, first secure permission from the author of the post stating the intentions for which you will use the post. This is only common courtesy. The author has the right to know that his/her postings TO THIS CLOSED AND PRIVATE LIST are going to be made public (i.e., non-members of this list).

- "Third-party" postings will not be allowed. Postings will not be permitted by those who, not desiring to be on this list, wish to address a certain member(s) of this list and INTEND to have everyone on the list be subjected to the contents of that posting. The postings exchanged in this list are only between members of the list. Outside information is acceptable (provided permission has been secured by the author). But if the outside posting addresses one or more individuals of this list then the posting is not acceptable and must not be posted via a third party (a member of the list). If the non-member wishes to address an individual or individuals on the list then that non-member must first subscribe to the list and present his/her case. After the case is resolved the individual can unsubscribe and quickly as he/she subscribed. This is not censorship. It is common decency.
