Quebec Separation
Problems
Many problems could result in Quebec separating from Canada. Besides the ones I mentioned earlier in Effects, family problems are not very easy to solve after Quebec's separation. For example, people living in other parts of Canada who have relatives living in Quebec would experience the following problems:
- higher phone bills because Quebec is not part of Canada anymore, thus making the long distance call rate go up.
- harder access to Quebec because you would have to obtain passport, etc, to go in and out of different nations, not like now, when you can go to Quebec whenever you feel like it.
Not only is the independence of Quebec a problem to families, it is a disaster for the society and its economics:
- Atlantic provinces will be forgotten (the shadow of Quebec)
- recent past of Canada outside Quebec shows that we have poorly endowed for national status in 21st century
- Canadians who are pleased to keep Quebec as apart of Canada are not comfortable with the economic structure of our country
- our strong east-west trading linkages will probably be weakend if Quebec's sovereignty becomes true
- and Quebec wants to use the Canadian dolloar, but as it's not part of Canada anymore, it's abandonment of monetary policies to the Bank of Canada is automatic.
Furthermore, if Quebec separates, then people who want to stay with Canada have to move to other places. This is a heavy financial burden, and as one moves to a new place, it takes time to get used to the new situation and getting along with your neighbours as well as meeting new friends. Despite of many people's urging to move out, most "no" voters stay because they believe that if they go, Quebec goes. If Quebec goes, so will British Columbia, and all will follow until there is no Canada. Then, there would cause economic chaos that would happen through the north of the Untied States border, leaving Canada wounded. The future of Canada and home depends on whether or not Quebec's independence will be granted. To most people, no matter who or what tries to separate us, all Canadians should continue to live together in friendship and respect. If ever does this referendum win, it will definitely disrupt peoples’ lives and wreck the economy in order to create two smaller Canada out of one. Official languages will be changed as well, for the French speaking Quebec is no longer part of our constitution. There would also be more disasters: the international trade and the Quebec sovereignty will be different. Quebec will stand alone. The duty rates for transport and imports from places will be different. Nothing would be the same again. Quebec's independence bring back the French people's culture, but disrupts the order we live in. Maybe it is time for us to question whether cultural aspect should be the basis of Quebec's independence.
