You can't fully understand individual "Bible stories" until you understand "the Bible's Story." You can't really grasp the theology of the Bible, much less share it with others, until you understand the Bible's "big picture," the history through which God reveals Himself to men. Yet many people have trouble reading the whole Bible. They often try to read it straight through from cover to cover, or choose passages and books to read somewhat randomly. Most people give up before finishing the whole Bible. The ones that don't give up don't neccessarily grasp the big picture when they're done. What can you do to sidestep these difficulties?

Jeff Cavins' The Great Adventure: A Journey Through the Bible is a program of chronological Bible reading designed to help you easily see and remember the Bible's Story, the big picture of salvation history, thereby giving you a biblical mental framework on which you can build more and more biblical knowledge. The Great Adventure is not a commentary about the Bible. It is a program, including very simple mnemonic devices, for reading the Bible chronologically. Although the program is designed for adults, Cavins also explains how it can be adapted even for use by children.

The Great Adventure is composed of:
(1) a workbook with chronological Bible reading checklist, timeline chart, and black & white maps and illustrations
(2) a 12-bead Bible timeline band: one color bead for each major period of Bible history
(3) a pocket-sized Bible timeline card: providing a bead-to-Bible-book key
(4) either 4 audio tapes OR 2 video tapes (your choice) explaining how to effectively use the program.
