We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father: God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation He came down from Heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became Man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate: He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father [*]. With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

About the icon of the crucifixion: At the top is the "image not made by hands." The original was made when Jesus pressed His face to a cloth. The "image not made by hands" is one of the foundations of Christian iconography. Below it, two angels, their "hands" covered reverently, hold instruments of Jesus' passion: the crown of thorns, the spear, and the sponge of vinegar. To the left and right of Jesus' hands appear the sun and moon, "bearing witness" to the passion of their Creator. On either side of Jesus' feet are Mary the Theotokos and the Beloved Disciple, who were given to each other as mother and son. Behind them is the exterior of Jerusalem's wall. The rock at the bottom represents Mt. Moriah, where Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac, where Melchizedek the high priest lived, and on which Jerusalem was built. Under the ground is Adam's skull, on which Jesus' blood is poured out. By His blood, the dead are raised to new life. The shape of this icon is an "eight-point" or "three-bar" cross, sometimes known as a Slavic cross.
