The Cantonment - Shoolay

A Collection of all the Photographs on "India Hello, Bangalore Walla Namaskara!" - Part XXX

Colonial Bangalore in the early years was first situated around the Fort, but the cantonment was established to resident the non-military population as well, and although beautiful houses came up in places like Langford Town, Richmond Town, there were areas near that were located to cater for the lower income group of people. Wood Street, Castle Street, Tate Lane are some that still have some old houses (for how long?) the main area that was older was called Shoolay and today also refered to as Ashoknagar. This is an area that houses were literally built of mud. I havent as yet got around to photographing the area, will do so soon. Bangalore was famous for being a 'Pensioner's Paradise', ar e we preserving that famous thought? I have appealed for your attention!
