HÉCTOR IGNACIO AVALOS nació en México (1958) en el seno de una familia pentecostal. Actualmente es un autor humanista secular, profesor de estudios religiosos en la Universidad Estatal de Iowa, director del Journal for the Critical Study of Religion (Revista para el estudio crítico de la religión), y miembro del comité editorial de Razonamientos (Revista mexicana del pensamiento humanista) y de la Revista Peruana de Filosofía Aplicada.
