We first met each other as a group at the Hungry Bear Restaurant on Wednesday night. The rendevous time was set at 7:30. However, my eager anticipation got the best of me and I headed over a little early. When I got there with my husband, Bill T. and Barb E. had already arrived. I recognized Bill T. because he had told us to look for someone running around in a Carolina shirt. I knew the sweet lady with the angel on her shoulder had to be Barb E. because I had seen her famous purple car in the parking lot. After greetings and hugs, our waitress showed us to a round table in the back corner of the restaurant--I guess she had a premonition of what was to come.
Soon others began to arrive. Valerie, all smiles, introduced her wonderful family: daughter Taylor, husband Tony, and son Isaac. The waitress began to bring trays of appetizers--veggies, fruit, cheese, and fried shrimp--which, we were told, were compliments of Bob, Tony, and Kathleen. Taylor played perfect hostess, carrying the trays from table to table, assuring that everyone had some of the delicious morsels.
Since we had all seen Goose in various manifestations on the chatboard, we all recognized him immediately. He introduced himself and his lovely wife, Karen. To our surprise and joy, Sue and her husband, Bill, were able to join our celebration. Unfortunately, Bill ducked out during the picture-taking.
Soon it was determined that sitting at several small tables did not function well, so Sue and others, much to the dismay of our waitress, began orchestrating the movement of tables so that we could all be seated as one large group. After the rearrangement Sylvia, YENDOR, Jaclyn, Karen, and Addie ended up seated at one end of our elongated circle of friends.
Probably, the two people that had been so intriguing that we most wanted to see their true identities were YENDOR and David of Arabia. David was determined to keep the mystery alive as long as possible. He arrived with his head and face covered. However, when his huge rack of baby back ribs arrived, he very quickly removed his head gear and revealed his handsome profile.
Very soon our initial nervousness dissipated and we all began to do the two things which we do best, talk and eat. We had a riotous good time which lasted for hours.
I thought that I had gotten everyone's picture at this dinner, but somehow, in addition to Sue's husband Bill and my own husband Marion, I didn't get Chet (Addie's son) nor Christa (YENDOR and Jaclyn's daughter). I must tell you that they are both delightful young people who added much to our enjoyment of activities in Cherokee. You will see them in pictures on the next page about our white water rafting trip and our Holiday Inn farewell breakfast. I also did not get pictures of Jude nor her friends Tiffanie and Samantha because they were not able to join us until the following evening at the Ponderosa Steak House.
