T21:
An Interview With Bruno Objoie
Bruno Objoie is
the one who plays the "exceptional guitars" on the albums by Trisomie 21.
On albums like "Works" and "T21 Plays The Pictures", his force is evident
and his talent and playing is truly exceptional. Here, I, Todd
E. Jones of Endorphin Bath attempt to ask this talented man questions
to inform you, the web surfer about what is going on with Bruno and Trisomie
21. Some of these questions were asked by you, the web surfers. Some of
them intelligent, some silly, but all directed toward a brilliant musician
from an amazing group.
This interview was
done by email and occurred during January 1999.
This interview was

Todd E. Jones of Endorphin Bath:
How are you doing?
BRUNO OBJOIE:
I'm
fine, thank you...I'm fine, thank you...
T.JONES: When and where were you
born?
BRUNO: I was born in north of france,
february 1962.
T.JONES:What T21 album are you
most proud of? Song? Concert? Cover?
BRUNO: I like everything we
did, with maybe a little preference for the song MOVING BY YOU, especially
live. The best live experience was THE PERFORMANCE we did in St Brieuc,
France. The best cover is CHAPTER FOUR, because
I like painting.
T.JONES: What T21 album are you
least proud of? Song? Concert? Cover?
BRUNO: As an album, I can't
decently say that I'm not proud of anyone of them... some songs maybe,
but it's hard to say because there is always
something happy during the making of, and I have a selective memory, just
remembering the good stuff. The worst concert was the very first of the
WORKS TOUR, in BRUSSELS, Belgium. We just had everything going wrong. Fortunately,
the rest of the tour was much more funny!
T.JONES:You're guitar playing
is obviously exceptional but who exactly labeled you that on the Works
album?
BRUNO: It was my presence as
a guitar player which was exceptionnal, not my skills!!!
The idea to put guitars on this LP was Herve's, and it was clear it was
temporary, just for this LP,but you know the
following...
T.JONES:Do you still play Scamps
guitars? Why? How are they different or better from other guitars?
BRUNO: I dont play on these guitars anymore,
I play now on a MUSIC MAN. Those guitars were custom made here, but for
some stupid reasons, me and Scamps are not friends anymore. I left his
guitars along with my relationship with him.
T.JONES:How did you become a part
of Trisomie 21?
BRUNO: With a common friend, BRUNO DONINI.
T.JONES:When and how did you first
meet Herve and Philippe Lomprez?
BRUNO: It's hard to remember, it was
just eleven years ago. Actually, Herve had a project with additionnals
guitars, and he told DONINI about that. Then, my name came, and voilà.
T.JONES: Do you ever find yourself
caught in the middle?
BRUNO: I have a doubt about this expression,
let me know what you mean...
T.JONES: Did you ever have a solo
project?
BRUNO: Not yet, but who knows?
T.JONES:Have you played your exceptional
guitars on anyone else's albums?
BRUNO: No, I've made several demos with
other people, but nothing serious.
T.JONES:Favorite season? Why?
BRUNO: Summer, I love the sun!
T.JONES:Favorite color?
BRUNO: Blue, color of our planet!
T.JONES:Favorite number?
BRUNO: Two
T.JONES:Favorite movie?
BRUNO: Old stuff from Georges Lautner, Fellini
T.JONES: Favorite book?
BRUNO: "La societe du spectacle", by Guy DEBORD
EB: Favorite song (besides something
by T21)?
BRUNO: Tons of them!!! BOWIE, ROLLING
STONES, DEEP PURPLE, LED ZEP,etc. One of them: Angie ,Rolling Stones
EB: Do you think President Bill
Clinton deserves to be impeached?
BRUNO: NEVER!!! This is the most ridiculous
thing I've seen in my life, and the most expensive blow job since
Adam and Eve .Try to think about they could have done with all this money!!!
T.JONES:Pro-choice or pro-life?
BRUNO: Pro choice, definitively. Women
can do what they want, it's their life first.
T.JONES: What did your parents
do? Where did they come from?
BRUNO: My parents were working in the
industry, here, and they are French, simply. They were not musicians.
T.JONES:Do you have a philosophy
for life? A code you live by?
BRUNO: "Give you the possibilities to
do what you want, believe in you"
T.JONES:Are you religious? If
so, what religion do you practice? Do you believe in God?
BRUNO: I don't believe in god, sorry!
T.JONES:What are your primary
musical influences?
BRUNO: It was DEEP PURPLE, Then IGGY
POP andpunk rock, then KING CRIMSON, then everything else. My favorite
guitar players are JEFF BECK, STEVE VAI, and
VAN HALEN
T.JONES: What are some of your
other influences on your life?
BRUNO: Some friends. I think they are
very important
T.JONES: Was the "Gothic/Industrial"
scene a part of T21 or something you wanted to grow away from?
BRUNO: I just dont worry about that point
T.JONES:When touring, what city
had the most energetic response? Hostile response?
BRUNO: Never hostile, fortunately...Energic
was St BRIEUC
T.JONES:Drug of choice?
BRUNO: Whisky!
T.JONES:Joy Division or New Order?
BRUNO: None of them is my cup of tea...I
prefer to stay away from them, to keep my mind free when working whith
T21.
T.JONES:Have you ever taken advantage
of your musical status and use the opportunity to have
shameless sex with someone?
BRUNO: Jocker!
T.JONES: When you were a child,
what did you want to be when you grew up?
BRUNO: Explorate pyramids in Egypt
T.JONES:Your sign?
BO: Zociac, you mean? Fish
T.JONES:Do you feel that it was
wrong or right for America to bomb the middle east?
BRUNO: Big question... I prefer diplomatic
solutions
T.JONES: Do you shave with an
electric razor or with a hand held one?
BRUNO: Held one, it shaves better Strange
question...
T.JONES:Euthanasia. Yes or No?
BRUNO: In some case, yes, of course
T.JONES:Can you tell the people
what your hometown was like.. Was it farmland? Industrial? Rich?Poor? Middle
class?...
BRUNO: Quite poor, actually. lot of
unemployment
T.JONES: Out of all of the bands
that you opened up for or opened up for you? Which did you like thebest?
The least?
BRUNO: The least was LA SOURIS DEGLINGUEE,
a french band with a very violent public.
The rest was correct
T.JONES: Do you contribute to
any of the lyrics in any of the T21 songs?
BRUNO: Never, but I generalyappreciate
them
T.JONES: In one word, how could
you describe the making of the album "Works"?
BRUNO: Sweat
T.JONES: In songs like "The Missing
Piece" and "A New Outset", the guitar work is somewhat disco-like. Was
your playing influenced at all by any other kinds of music like disco,
blues, country, salsa?
BRUNO: It was supposed to be a NEW ORDER like
stuff, and it was Herve's idea. As I was playing in clubs bands at this
period, it was not a problem..
T.JONES:What were some of your
jobs before you decided to be a full time musician?
BRUNO: I've never been a full
time musician!!! In fact I was playing music along with my studies. I did
the break to play with T21, and I have an other job beside....
T.JONES: Are you proud of T21?
BRUNO: Quite, yeah
T.JONES: Since T21 is the chromosome
for Down Syndrome, how is do you feel the name Trisomie 21 represents the
band?
BRUNO: I've never been involved in the
name, so...
T.JONES: Smoker or non-smoker?
BRUNO: Non smoker now, but I did smoke
T.JONES:Heterosexual or homosexual?
BRUNO: Hetero

meet your wife?
BRUNO: Not married, but we met in a night
bar
T.JONES: Do you have children?
What are their names? How have they made you look at your life differently?
BRUNO: Not yet, but...
T.JONES: In one word, how
would you describe France?
BRUNO: Worth seeing
T.JONES: Trisomie 21, nowadays,
seem to becoming much more new-age sounding like in "Gohohako"..
Is this a sound which you agree with?
BRUNO: I agree with every evolution.
I don't like doing always the same
T.JONES: What does "Gohohako"
mean?
BRUNO: I don't know, ask herve...
T.JONES: What are you most afraid
of?
BRUNO: Nothing in particular
T.JONES: What makes you happy?
BRUNO: Every surprise life gives to
