The bass line introduces this song. Quick, complicated, funky, & groovy. It's a perfect pop song! Andrew Burnett's voice has range. He sings mellow and can have a sonic yell at other parts. "These backwards, spineless selfish swine! They come between us every time!"
SEWER
PIPE DREAM -
"La
grande peste. 'People talk about revolution... without referring explicitly
to everyday life. Without understanding what is subversive about love and
what is positive in the refusal of constraints. Such people have
a corpse in their mouth' r.v. - a happy despatch. Launch into eternity."

Sewer Pipe Dream
Oh, I had a dead body in my mouth
what could I do but spit it out?
I had a sewer pipe down my throat
what could I do but let you choke?
And you look at me with those
And you look at me with those
blue brown eyes
green brown eyes
And you look at me with those
And you look at me with those
Oh, I first sipped the waters of sin
what could I do but dip my hand in?
I fell into a sonic hole dream
What could I do but sleep with sin?
And you look at me with those
And you look at me with those
green brown eyes
green brown eyes
And you look at me with those
And you look at me with those
I had a corpse between my teeth
what could I do but start to shriek?
I bit into cold dynamite
what could I do but shake with fright?
And you look at me with those
And you look at me with those
green brown eyes
big brown eyes
And you look at me with those
And you look at me with those
Sometimes I think it's not true
only when I'm lost in you
Another perfect pop song. It's jumpy! It's happy! The lyrics are about corpses and sewer pipes! What more can you want? The perfect line is: "And you look at me with those, and you look at me with those, green brown eyes..."

KISS THE FLOWER IN BLOOM -
"I
woke up on the wrong side of the world. Only one thing counts. Our nature
in life is affected by the friction of the scramble. Of course -
kiss."
(wilmington/A.Burnett)
Published by Hallin Music
I kiss the flower in bloom
Every night I wake up 3 or 4 times
and walk in circles just to clear my head
All along the lines I've been double crossed
Across the lines I've been double crossed
All of my creations have been purged
It's the first rule of profits and it hurts
Everything is fine, I don't know what's to
re-kiss
Divided the numbers only one thing counts
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower
Every year I wake up a thousand times
and walks in circles just to ease the strain
everything is fine I don't know what's to
re-kiss
everything is fine I don't know what's to
re-kiss
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
I kiss the flower in bloom
This is a Close Lobsters masterpiece! An absolute classic! Perfect! It reminds me a spring day in a field with flowers and sun! Although the lyrics are about waking up in the middle of the night: "Every night I wake up three of four times, I walk in circles just to clear my head"... The chorus is the title repeated but it's not over done at all.. A Close Lobsters Classic!

"I can touch the sky with the tip of my hands
and foretell many many things ....
???
There are ninety-seven sides to everything
A girl is no longer risen
You see everything has ninety-seven sides
A girl is no longer risen
Whoo!"
Weird, fast, bass-like sounds in the beginning. Then, it hits. Everything at once: Drums, guitars, vocals, hit all at once with an intense speed. This song is so quick and short that the lyrics are hard to understand. The energy is amazing! There is no chorus but the music does change. (like "Gulp" in Headache Rhetoric") At the end, there words sung by Andrew Burnett in a slower, more stretched out speed: "There are ninety-seven sides to everything. A girl is no longer (risen?). You see everything has ninety-seven sides. A girl is no longer (risen?) whoo!" My brother heard this and was convinced that this band was taking psychedelic drugs!
A
PROPHECY -
"A
shadow cast before the [ha]nd. A voice, fear, the gods sit nearby &
say: '... I have a crystal ball head... ' and I shuddered! Angels
of grace defend us! We don't know where we're going. 'There will be more
calamities, more death, more despair, Not the slightest indication of a
change anywhere. The cancer of time is eating us away."
(wilmington/A.Burnett)

This song is a classic masterpiece! This is one of my all time favorite Close Lobsters song. Words can NOT describe how much I love thing song and how much it means to me. It is timeless to my ears and will never be anything but perfect! Starts out slow and perfect pop. The jangle of guitars and beat makes this song sad. "I can see it like a prophecy. I have a crystal ball head. You could reach for the stars of heaven, never means you'll ever get there.." It's sad but so true... The chorus is perfect. Never repetitious because it slightly changes each time. "You don't know where you're going, it's not surprising since you don't know where to go".. Then, "going" is switched to "doing" and so on.. The song has it's perfect solo and then, the music becomes faster. Check out the link above! The final chorus occurs and the emotion is intense. This is a Close Lobsters classic masterpiece!
IN SPITE OF THESE TIMES

"A civilized - thug age
love song. When can you fit me in? Indeed. Girl sage obsession. Don't sit
under the mushroom cloud... etc. Turning the tides."

"Force me back, I can't sleep when
you won't let the moon get you down
It may sound (?)
The walls of the world just gave way
It's not like you to be so gone
they fear you picked up that drink from me
From your window
I asked the sky
'When can you fit me in?'
Promise me that you'll never forget in spite
of these times
Promise me that you'll never forget in spite
of these times
My line in sight of everything
A hand held me from the maelstrom
A warm hand, a sticky hand
held me from the mob
It just like me to get so gone
I don't recall where I picked up that drink
from
From your window
I asked the sky
'When can you fit me in?'
Promise me that you'll never forget in spite
of these times
Promise me that you'll never forget in spite
of these times
Don't let it slip through your hands
Don't let it slip through your hands
Force me back, I can't sleep when
(and sleep late?)
you won't let the moon get you down
(?)
The walls of the world just gave way
Problems and maelstrom and pestilence and
greed
From your window
I asked the sky
'When can you fit me in?'
Promise me that I'd never forget in spite
of these times
Promise me that I'd never forget in spite
of these times
Don't let it slip through your hands
Don't let it slip through your hands
Don't let it slip through your fingers"
The high speed jangle of the guitars make the listener feel like he/she is running in a field. This song is fast but so perfect! So realistic. It's an honest "thug age" love song. "From your window, I ask the sky, 'when can you fit me in? Promise me that you'll never forget in spite of these times... Don't let it slip through your hands!" This song changes in it's own complicated way. Like this modern world, the lyrics for this song are modern though the instrumentation seems classic. I have a feeling that this would be great acoustic and slow too! This song has grown on me through the years and I must admit that I think this is another Close Lobsters classic!

"A summer of disease

I reluctantly threw
the boomerang
Loop to loop of a satellite

Drifting through the

a summer disease began
I reluctantly threw

Loop to loop a river

And I am the sky for

(How does it feel when
your head {hits the pillow?} (feels too low?)
This is another drug song, as my brother would say. I have no idea what this song is about... at all! "(Drifting?) on the sea again, where the sacred river ran. I reluctantly threw a boomerang." The chorus... "Foxheads stalk this land!" Boomerangs, satellites, rivers, summers of disease? Towards the end, after the final chorus, Andrew sings in a low, mumble: "How does it feel when (your head) is too low". Don't get me wrong, this is a damn' cool song. I love it! It is just very weird, completely ambiguous. That's a characteristic of the band which makes them so great! Since my name is Todd I have a connection with this song. The name "Todd" means "Fox" ... "Foxheads stalk this land!"

.....
Never
Repeat those words!
Mother of God!
This song is sonic masterpiece both chaotic and sad while cool and flowing. The tight bouncing looping bass line starts the song off. The beat kicks in with the distortion of the guitars. Andrew sings in a young yelling voice filled with revelation inspired bliss/torture: "Never!!!!! Repeat those words!!!!" This song started the loose format to "Knee Trembler" on the album Headache Rhetoric where the beat, bass, and guitar becomes hypnotic and the structure is much more loose. Also, Andrew talks a poem within the middle of the song. This makes the song the most unique one on the entire album. "I'm the lonely man of lonely men. I am the young man..." Andrew says with rhythm in his nervous 80's pop poetic way. This song is an epic masterpiece of God, Easter, spring, April, life, death, creation, control, mind, body, and soul. It's complicated, sophisticated and maelstrom of sound! When the speaking is done, the chorus returns: "Never! Repeat those words! Mother of God!" When Andrew sings the title, the guitars come in and the end is near! Everything swirls around each other creating the sonic chaos. Everything gets faster and faster. More tense with every second. Foxheads! Sewer pipes! Flowers! Paisley! In spite of these times, a prophecy will be fulfilled! Like a sonic juggernaut pounding its way through every soul in the way, the Close Lobsters transform themselves from a pop group to a classic band with epic proportions. It's almost an orgasmic rage of in the vacuum of hate and love, Heaven and Hell, life and death. It's a Close Lobsters classic which must be appreciated! Brilliant!
