Endorphin Bath & Todd E. Jones presents...

Dope Song Hall Of Fame

I listen to a wide variety of music as you can see from my band list
Here is a band and a song which I have been listening to quite often this week.
"I Want You, But I Don't Need You"
by
MOMUS
The guitar jangles along with an organ
which can move the body to sway back and forth.
Momus is so damn' cool!
Here is a song with the perverse wit and honesty wit of Jarvis Cocker,
The novelty humor of Lawrence from Denim,
The french musical style of Stereolab,
And he started his career before they did!
He's been around for along time! He was in a 4AD band called "The Happy Family".
When I was the Promotional Director on WCRN,
I would play "What Would Death Be Like?", "11 Executioners" &
"Murderers, The Hope Of Women"
All the time while remixing them with weird effects and other songs.
I completely remixed those songs!
But this song, "I Want You, But I Don't Need You"  is a perfect pop song
Off of the "Ping Pong" album.
It is honest with good intentions but can be misinterpreted.
All geniuses are misunderstood.
"We're here one minute, the next we're dead.
So love me and leave me but try not to need me enough said!"
Here, Momus (Nick Currie) claims that it is more of a compliment to
Want someone than to need one.
...Think about it....
This is my favorite line:
"I f*ck you, and I want you to want me to f*ck you.
But I don't f*cking need you, don't need you to need me to f*ck you.
If you need me to need you to f*ck? That f*cks everything up!
La La-la!"
It's a brilliant pop song with a sharp wit and sophisticated outlook.
You can dance to it like a drinking song or an old style waltz
Still, the music is full with guitars and keyboards.
Nick, you crazy man, you're a damn' good songwriter in my ears!
Check out his official site, (which he maintains himself!)

I told Momus (Nick Currie) that he is in the Dope Song Hall Of Fame
& he wrote me:
"Todd,

Thanks for the radio work, and for the Dope Song tribute! I forgive you for not actually owning all the CDs... good luck finding them.

Hope to see you on tour,
Nick"

"I Want You, But I Don't Need You" deserves a place in the
Dope Song Hall Of Fame!
