Heimdall Heimdall is the guardian of the rainbow bridge (Bifrost) to asgaard and the father of man. He is my patron god and the deity who most closely matches my thoughts. Below are some interesting facts about Heimdall and the place he occupies in the realm of the Gods.
I have felt a deep connection to
Heimdall since an incident many years ago and the beginning of my journey
into the Odinist/Asatru faith. I felt the protection offered in a
life threatening situation and have evolved my faith and connection to
all the gods from that point forward. Many or all of our Gods offer
protection in various forms to the folk, but I feel a special bond to Heimdall.
Heimdall is an elder God and was
born from nine mothers of the Sea which some sources view as a representation
of the waves. Nine Etins Maids: Gjalp, Greip, Eistla, Eyrgjafa, Ulfrun,
Angeyja, Imor, Atla, Jarnaxa. While there is no doubt in my mind
that Heimdall is deeply connected with the Sea I feel it goes much deeper
than a mere connection with the waves. The ever changing and yet
ever constant action of the Sea is a better representation to my mind.
There has been speculation that the nine waves represent nine lives of
Heimdall but it seems rather tenuous and somehow feels wrong to me.
There is nothing available to show the paternal side side of Heimdalls
origin. The lost Heimdallargaldr is needed here I believe.
Heimdall has been reffered to as the White God, Rig, Nail Resplendant One,
and mentioned as having gold teeth.
