Introduction to Surah Al-Fatihah-Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Introduction to Surah Al-Fatihah-Muhammad Farooq-i-Azam Malik

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah The Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds; 1
Most Gracious, Most Merciful;
Master of the Day of Judgement. 2
You do we worship, 3 And You do we call on for help.
Guide us along the straight way,
The way of those upon whom You have bestowed Your Grace,
Not those whom You are angry with. And not those who are lost. 4

Commentary of Surah Al-Fatihah-S. Abul A'la Maududi

"Allah is the Light of the heavens and earth. His Light can be likened
to a niche in which is a lamp. The lamp is in a glass, the glass
is as it were a brightly shining star, lit from a blessed olive
tree from neither the East nor the West. Its very oil would
almost glow though no fire touched it. Light Upon Light:
Allah guides to His Light whom He wills. Allah sets forth allegories
for mankind, and He has complete knowledge of all things." (Qur'an, 24:35)

"O Allah, illuminate my heart with light, and my eyes
with light and my ears with light and let there be
light on my right, and light on my left.
Let there be light above me and light
below me, let there be light in front
of me and light behind me.
O Allah, make me a light."
