The Hermosillo Sonora Mexico Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Hermosillo is another excellent example of why the new small temples are so important. The first converts to the Church in Mexico were baptised near the city in 1875, yet persecution towards the church became so strong that in 1915 two members of the church were killed for not renouncing their religion. The descendants of these poineering members remained faithful to the Church, but had a very difficult time recieving their temple blessings due to the difficulties of traveling. Now they have a temple in their city. The temple both rewards their efforts and challenges them to continue to remain faithful in the future.

The temple was announced on 20 July 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 5 December 1998.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 27 February 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 8,600 square foot temple.
The spire is about 78 feet tall.
The Hermosillo Temple serves stakes in Sonora.
