The Nashville Tennessee Temple
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Tennessee has the distinction of being the first state with two small temples, which were both dedicated within a month of each other. Other states have two or more temples, but all of them have only one small temple and/or one or more full sized temple (Utah has 10 full sized and one small, California has 3 full sized and one small, Idaho has two full sized, and Washington, Oregon, Nevada and Alberta Canada all have one full sized and one small). The Church originally planned to build a full sized temple at Nashville, but neighborhood opposition in two proposed locations and a failed lawsuit led to the current small temple next to the stake center in Franklin, a Nashville suburb.
The temple was announced on 9 November 1994.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 13 March 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 21 May 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,850 square foot temple.
The spire is about 78 feet tall.
The Nashville Temple serves stakes in parts of Kentucky and Tennessee.
