The Tokyo Japan Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The first temple in Asia, the Tokyo Temple was built on the site of the former mission home in downtown Tokyo. Foreshadowing the compact nature of the Hong Kong Temple, the Tokyo Temple has a parking garage in the basement and an apartment on one of the upper floors for the temple president.

The temple was announced in October 1974.
Since the temple was built on the sight of the mission home, which had to be demolished first, there was no ground breaking ceremony.
Construction began in 1976.
There was no cornerstone ceremony
The temple dedicated on 27-29 October 1980.
There are 5 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 58,000 square foot temple.
The spire is 178 feet tall.
The Tokyo Temple serves stakes in Japan.
