It is disingenuous to compare and embryo or fetus with skin cells or cancer cells. These things to not have the ability to develop into a human being. Tindrbox, do you really believe that simply by moving through the birth canal, a fetus becomes profoundly different? I guess what I'm wondering is: do you support third-trimester abortions?

Thank you, Alan, for your wonderful point and intriguing question. Although I do not think that this arena is the proper place for the entire abortion debate, the issue has been raised and I'm willing to address it.

You ask if I support third-trimester abortions. Without getting into too many details, I will mention that I, too, have reservations about this topic. By the content of my original e-mail regarding abortion, I thought it was adequately clear by its context that I was talking about earlier stages of pregnancy. True, I did not indicate that explicitly, so I guess you got me there, bubba.

As for late-term or partial-birth abortions, I believe many arguments could be rationally fashioned against these procedures. I, however, have not fashioned any myself. My position on this topic is still in its formative stage. If you like, I'd love to read any arguments you have in favor of or against late-term abortion practices, provided they are founded on a sound, rational basis.

However, I am not interested in highfalutin and slanderous emotional tirades, such as "late-term abortionists are my sworn enemies." Something of that nature is better suited to entries in your diary, but not in your public e-mail. I should hope that we all could rise above that adolescent level if we want to be taken seriously.
