82. THE BIBLE COMMANDS MEN TO BE EMPIRICAL?

In a message dated June 8, 1998 BKNewton writes:

"As I said above, the Bible commands men to be empirical and to use their reasoning abilities, as well."

Where does the Bible say this? Who is the issuer of this ‘commandment’? I don’t believe it was Moses. I don’t think it was Jesus either. Can you compare/contrast/define reason vs. faith? Why would Jesus go on and on about faith, and remain completely silent about reason? Did Jesus ever tell his followers to use reason? If so, what did Jesus mean by ‘reason’? Did he mean Aristotelian Logic? Or did he mean the sophistry of the scribes and Pharisees? Can you use verses from the Bible to support your statements?

If the Bible does not give the Christian all the knowledge he needs (as some Christians I have known claim), can the Bible be said to be able to stand on its own? Why or why not?

Oh drat!! Just some more pesky questions, I suppose.
