Nile Cruise - caleche
Next day, the boat had docked at Edfu which lies halfway between Aswan to the south and Luxor to the north. We took a caleche to ride to the temple. As you can see, a caleche is a sort of buggy drawn by one horse which can hold 3 adults plus the driver. There were lots of kids in our caleche, so we were pretty full.
The drivers try to make their caleches very colourful and hang lots of bright and sparkly ornaments on them. I'm sitting on the driver's seat next to Atif, a sailor from our boat, who pushed Mum round all the temples in a wheelchair that week. Mum's sitting in the back seat behind me. She has a white hat on. The horses were usually thin. People and horses don't always get enough to eat in Egypt.
