Ankh

You will see gods, goddesses and pharoahs holding ankhs in paintings and carvings everywhere.  Its earliest significance is not understood but it was given by the gods to the king as a symbol of life and irresistible strength.  It is also seen in Coptic Christian icons and remains a popular symbol to the present day.
