Horus

An early concept of Horus was that he was the sky-god of the Nile, whose eyes were the sun and the moon.  But then he became identified with the son of Osiris and Isis, who fought with his uncle Seth to avenge his father's death.  His cult temple is at Edfu which is where the ancients claim that this battle occurred.  Horus lost an eye in the battle, and yet he is an all-seeing god, commonly identifed with the falcon, the king of the air.  Here a musician plays to a falcon-headed god guarded by the eyes of Horus.

Seth almost won the battle until Isis intervened and Osiris came back from the underworld to judge Seth and banish him back to the desert.  The battle between Horus and Seth became synonymous with the archetypal victory of good over evil.  The Pharoah became the living symbol of Horus watching over his people.  He would come to Edfu for a ceremony each year celebrated with much ritual when priests would parade statues of the gods before the people on sacred barques.
