Pyramids - our first view
Everybody ought to know about the Pyramids at Giza, on the western edge of Cairo. They're the only remaining monuments listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This was the very first thing Mum and I went to see in Egypt.
And although you may have seen pictures, it's still breathtaking to see them for the very first time as the city stops and the desert begins. I'm taking this picture from my horse - you can see the tips of his ears. Mum rode a camel. In the distance is the Pyramid of Chefren, a pharoah who reigned from 2558 to 2533 BC. That's old! Lots of people had to build this pyramid which is thought to weigh nearly 5 million tons. You can still see the limestone "plaster" at the top.
