Calf Creek is an Oasis in this arid desert. It is a life line for all the desert residents. Sit quietly and you may see all kinds of life come to drink from this pool. Perhaps even a Desert Bighorn Sheep. Small waterfalls like this are fairly common in the Desert Southwest, and are vital to its survival. They even allow the rare Monkey Flower to grow and thrive. The Monkey Flower is a small red bloom, which clings precariously to the edges of the cliff, in alcoves such as this. It is a rare flower left over from the Ice Ages. Do not pick this rare flower. There are very few of them left.
