oowah lake
There are several small lakes in the La Sal Mountains (near Moab) and the Blue Mountains (near Monticello). Beautiful, serene settings in stark contrast with the red rocks of Canyonlands and Arches. It has always amazed me how you can go from the hot, severe environment of the canyons, to the cool, green, deer & elk filled forests in an hour. Visitors tip! One of my favorite late afternoon/early evening excursions, is to drive to the top of the mountain, have a picnic dinner, and enjoy watching the birds and squirels scamper about around me. Then as dusk begins to fall, I like to drive slowly down the mountain and watch for the deer grazing in the meadows. It is such a serene way to end any day. I truly love to watch the animals!
