Please keep in mind that these transcriptions are provided for educational use only. Jazz musicians do not, as a rule, make a large amount of money, and income from album sales helps to pay the rent, as well as allowing them to play and record the music that they want to play. Please consider these lead sheets and transcriptions as "lessons" from these artists, and if you learn from them, help them out by purchasing their records, thus paying for your lesson.

TOM HARRELL'S SOLO ON "BILL'S HIT TUNE"
concert transcription, Bb transcription
This is a great solo from the 1979 Bill Evans album "We Will Meet Again" (Warner Brothers 3411-2). This is a highly reccomended recorded to any fans of either Tom Harrell, or Bill Evans. The tenor saxophonist on the date, little known Larry Schneider, is also a great find.

MILES DAVIS/GIL EVANS' "MILES AHEAD"
lead sheet, Bb lead sheet
A classic tune, and, as far as I'm aware, a lead sheet has never been published in any of the popular fake books. Notice the difference in form between the head and the blowing sections. Originally from the album "Miles Ahead". (NOTE: the chord movement in the head doesn't always make a lot of harmonic sense, but that's what they play on the recording...which is, by the way, the Pat LaBarbera Quartet)

MICHAEL BRECKER'S "MIDNIGHT VOYAGE"
lead sheet, Bb lead sheet
This is a fairly straightforward minor-keyed tune, with a few twists, from Michael Brecker's most recent album "Tales from the Hudson" on the Impulse label.

PAT METHENY'S "HERMITAGE"
lead sheet, Bb lead sheet
A beautiful, simple melody works nicely with the modern harmony that accompanies it. From Pat's album "New Chautauqua", and also found on the Charlie Haden album "Quartet West" (from which this was transcribed)

ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM'S "ZINGARO"
lead sheet, Bb lead sheet
Inexplicably largely ignored by the jazz community, this is one of the finest tunes in the Jobim catalogue. A very chromatic melody lies at the heart of the charm of Zingaro (also known as "Portrait in Black in White" or "Retrato en Branco et Preto"). NOTE: different recordings of this song reveal many different interpretations of how the melody should be phrased, and subtlties in the chord progression. After listening to many recordings, this lead sheet represents the consensus on the proper interpretation of the tune.

SONNY ROLLINS' "CUTIE"
lead sheet, Bb lead sheet
A catchy, motivic melody, and a 4 bar bridge thumbprint this relatively unknown Sonny Rollins composition. This tune is fun to play, and contains a relatively simple chord progression. Originally from the album "The Sound of Sonny"

JOHN SCOFIELD'S "KEEP ME IN MIND"
lead sheet, Bb lead sheet
Recorded on the John Scofield album "Meant to Be" with, among others, Joe Lovano, this composition is a quiet, gentle, piece that sounds deceptively simple. In fact, the tune is filled with some very modern harmony, and moves harmonically in a very unusual way.
