God and Country
How many times have you sung this song? But have you ever really paid attention to the words....?
O Beautiful For Spacious Skies, For Amber Waves Of Grain, For Purple Mountain Majesties Above The Fruited Plain! America! America! God Shed His Grace On Thee And Crown Thy Good With Brotherhood From Sea To Shining Sea!
Katherine Lee Bates
At the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin was asked...."Well Dr. Franklin. What have you given us?"
He Replied..."You have a republic, Madame. If you can keep it!"
Have we kept it? Are we good stewards of our forefather's legacy?
As you can see, by Mr. Franklins words, our founding fathers created a republic not a democracy. A democracy? Where half plus one can ravage the rest? Where a fanatical majority can deprive the individual of his rights, his life, his property? Not our forefathers!! Not our republic called America!!
The very essence of democracy rests in the absolute sovereignty of the majority. Our founding fathers could never accept such tyranny. They recognized only one rightful sovereign over men and nations, God---not the state, not the majority.
The leaders, at the time that our nation was founded, were men intune with what God wanted for our great country. They had lofty ideals, high morals, and knew the need to consult God about how our nation was to be run. They realized America without God would crumble.
Have we kept our republic? Or is it crumbling? Are our political leaders moral? Do they have lofty ideals? Do they consult God?
