Here are listings of information about E-mail LISTS that you can join and participate in with other people with similar interests to your own. Most of these are for sub-specialties related to HAM RADIO or some other subject that I enjoy!
I hope that YOU will find the information useful too!
ONE MAJOR SUGGESTION that will help you if you subscribe to multiple lists and wish to seperate out your e-mails, the best way is to use a E-MAIL reader program like PEGASUS E-mail or EUDORA. These and other sophisticated e-mail reader programs will let you use MAIL-FILTERING to send these messages into their own FOLDER.
You can download either of those two programs off the World Wide Web.
Enjoy!

The OTRIG mailing list is designed to be a forum for discussions concerning amateur radio equipment that is no longer in production. It is expected that members of the list will not only post messages concerning equipment of older vintage that is for sale, but also equipment that they desire to obtain. Questions and answers concerning modifications are encouraged.
Participants are from around the world; please keep polite especially if someone makes what looks like to us a silly mistake.

DO NOT POST UENCODED FILES VIA THIS LIST. Your name will be removed from the list if you make this type of post.
Use common sense in quoting replies...just because your mailer quotes the entire message is NOT a reason for you to do it. Some folks are paying for their band width...they and my gateway equipment doesn't need to be beaten to death by over quotes.
Should the postmaster at this gateway receive excessive error messages from your provider about mailbox full, bad address, etc., your name will be removed from the list. Once you've taken care of the problem, feel free to subscribe again.
You may also add your personal information to the mailling list subscriber database. To get help with the database, send email to:

SPARKS: VLF Amateur Radio
I have heard from a subscriber to this list that our ongoing discussion on the 600 meter band question is off topic, and that those of us who are interested in this should take our discussion somewhere else.
In addition to the "off topic" problem, there is the additional concern for us 600 meter fans of "securiity" leaks.
After much thought, I have decided to provide another list for us who are interested in furthering an attempt to gain a 600 meter band for us.
This new list will be the SPARKS list. I have subscribed 23 people from this list who have expressed an interest in the topic under discussion. I will send a short test message to those people shortly. If anyone who gets that message does NOT want to be on that list, please post me privately and I will immediately take you off.
If there is anyone here who IS interested in our topic and does NOT receive a test message, please post a message to:
majordomo@piobaire.mines.uidaho.edu
with ONLY the words
subscribe sparks
in the BODY of the message
or let me know so I can add you manually.
Thanks for everyone's patience while we have sorted this out.

The NEW RFI Mail Reflector
This reflector will focus on the cause and cure of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). Issues relating to RFI and TVI are welcome. Some examples of related topics are interference caused by or to computers, amateur radio equipment, television receivers, AM/FM receivers, garage door wireless systems, telephones, etc. Discussions should be focused on providing technical information to assist amateurs in all kinds of interference solutions.
To subscribe to the group, send a message to rfi-request@contesting.com and put only the word "subscribe" in the message body.
To post a message to the group send it to rfi@contesting.com.
There is also a digest form of this list. You will receive one message per day, mailed out nominally at 11:45 p.m. eastern time. It will contain all the previous day's messages. To subscribe, send a message to rfi-digest-request@contesting.com and put only the word "subscribe" in the message body. You do not need to be subscribed to both reflectors, and people subscribed to the -digest list can still post to the RFI list address.
If you have problems with the list please direct your mail to

AM North America Presents:
AM Radio Reflector - Discussions on Operating With AM Mode!
An email reflector such as this one, is very simple to use. There is no need to go to a website and navigate through a series of menus, etc. to post a public message to the list. If you know how to send email, then you already have what it takes to participate in the AM Radio List! It is suggested that you place the AM Radio List email address, AMRadio@listbot.com in your email program. This is the email address you use to post public messages.
Only users who have subscribed to the AM Radio Reflector will receive the message(s). In reverse, you as a subscriber, will receive any messages posted to the list when you check your email! Some users have asked why they are not getting messages after signing up. If no one is posting, then there is nothing to receive! A reflector is much like a bulletin board system in that it allows you to send and receive public messages via your email client.
The primary difference is that you do this via email as opposed to connecting to a website. Another added benefit is the fact that ONLY the registered subscribers can send and receive mail from the reflector. Even though this list is currently unmediated, "bad apples" can have their membership revoked. Most of us have all dealt with "bad apples" on various bbs's in the past. These are the guys who needlessly criticize others in the group, and basically just create unneeded chaos. This will not be tolerated here. Be certain to at least fill in your name (Or just callsign) and location on the sign-up form. All this information is confidential and NOT available to the other users. I require a name or call, and location simply for security purposes regarding the list server. Location is used for demographic statistics which is available to users. Any entry which lacks the name or valid callsign and location will be removed from the list. Have fun, and please post AM related messages to the list!

Annoucing a new R-390 Receiver Enthusiasts' mailing list:
The R-390 Mailing List is for the discussion of the features, operating, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, improvements and general lore related to the R-390 family of radio receivers which were developed for military and government applications. This group includes the R-390, R-390A, R-392 as well as their variants such as the R-389 and R-391. These radios were designed and developed by the Collins Radio Company of Cedar Rapids Iowa but were made by different manufacturers under various contracts spanning almost 35 years from 1950 to 1984.
The List administrators are concerned with the growth of speculators and profiteers which have been pervading the vintage radio hobby of late. Consequently we have adopted the following guidelines on a temporary basis in the hope that the abuses seen elsewhere will not occur here. FOR SALE, WANTED and SWAP postings by PRIVATE PARTIES are acceptable but not encouraged due to the many other alternative outlets for that information. Furthermore, we request that such posts be limited to the equipment under discussion. Commercial postings, announcements and SPAM are NOT welcome. If in doubt of an article's suitability, DON'T POST IT and ASK!
It is hoped that all subscribers will contribute material to the R-390 List as it is the knowledge, wisdom and experience that will make t his list a useful, informative and valuable resource.
The advisory board of the R-390 List are:
Co-administrators are Chuck Rippel, WA4HHG, and Michael Crestohl, W1RC.

Here's the general information for the list you've subscribed to, in case you don't already have it:
Thank you for subscribing to one (or both!) of the TWO KnightLite Email Lists!
The two lists are KLNET and KLQRP. Latest information is at: http://www.waterw.com/~knights/index.html
The KLNET list is for discussion of the Round Table and any other net or regular ongoing on-the-air activity.
The KLQRP list is for discussion of other activities, like technical projects, special operating events like Field Day or expeditions to the NC Lighthouse locations, get-togethers like meetings at member's houses, events like the hamfests, or other special events.
The need for two separate groups has been suggested becuase there are members who do not live in the areas of North Carolina where we hold most of our meetings in member's houses and host special operating events. These people nevertheless want to keep in touch on the Round Table, and desire a forum for discussion about it, but do not wish to be involved in communications about the regional activities in NC. So we will accomodate these people, and more, with the two lists. If you are interested in the net AND the regional activities, then by all means SUBSCRIBE TO BOTH!
Here is a bit of philosophy from the list manager (Dave, WA4NID). Let me say that I do NOT plan to be a list policeman, in the sense of regulating or moderating the topics of discussion. Everyone is urged to freely post to these lists and suggest topics for consideration. It is hoped that the lists can become one mode of communication for KnightLite members and other interested hams, which encourages camaraderie and progress in amateur radio pursuits of all types. I hope that people will use these lists to keep in touch with the group as a whole, and to arrange meetings with specific members, and to discuss any QRP or radio-related ideas or plans.
The one (and only) thing that will NOT be tolerated on the lists is profanity or other uncivil behavior. I am sure that this will not be a problem from QRPers. The only reason I am saying this is to make people aware that an OPEN list is available to ANY who subscribe, and other such lists have been subjected to trouble from disruptive individuals. Such folks will be quickly excluded by the list manager.
KnightLites and any other persons interested in any aspect of low-power amateur radio are invited to join the KnightLite Email Lists! I am providing a little tutorial here on subscribing and unsubscribing, and pointers to the additional HELP file. Please SAVE this information for later use!
HOW TO SUBSCRIBE: (You already know this but this is an information file so I'm including it for completeness ;-)
Send a message to:
majordomo@acpub.duke.edu
with the BODY of the message only containing:
subscribe klnet
(and/or)
subscribe klqrp
NOTE: unsubscribe similarly, substituting the word unsubscribe for the word subscribe.
HOW TO OBTAIN THE VERY USEFUL "HELP" FILE:
Send a message to:
majordomo@acpub.duke.edu
with the BODY of the message containing the line:
help
This line will cause a file to be sent to you describing commands that anyone can use in a message to majordomo, the listserver. This file will be very useful in documenting your available options with regard to the lists. The subject line on your message to majordomo does not matter (you may leave it blank).
HOW TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THE LIST (which gets automatically resent to all current list subscribers). Don't use majordomo in the address, but use:
klnet@acpub.duke.edu or
klqrp@acpub.duke.edu
Remember that the above addresses are for messages to be shared with list subscribers. Messages about subscribing and unsubscribing go to the software robot (majordomo) address.
HOW TO GET THE INFO FILE (this very document!):
Send a message to majordomo@acpub.duke.edu with the body of the message consisting of the line
info
where
I want to encourage you to use the lists as a way to get to know
your fellow KnightLites, to organize fun activities, and to
enhance your ham radio operating and construction experiences by
sharing with your KnightLite friends. If you have any questions
about the new email lists, please do not hesitate to send me a
note at my email address at the bottom of this notice. Also,
suggestions for the improvement of this info file are welcome
and encouraged!
For those who don't know, and may be asking "what or who is the
KnightLites?": We are a group of amateur radio operators
interested in low-power operation (QRP). Most members are
located in North Carolina but there are members in other states
and countries! We meet on the 80-meter amateur radio band on
Sunday nights, hold special operating events and meetings
through the year, and have good fun and fellowship wherever and
whenever we can. For more information on the KnightLites, set
your World Wide Web browser to the following URL:

HAM RADIO HISTORY
One that I saw that lloks good is the Ham Radio History group at:
Ham Radio (Amateur Radio) has been in existence for nearly one hundred years. The original old timers and the original Elmers are gone. In order to research and preserve as much of our hobby's past as possible, I have established this forum in an attempt to achieve that end. Everyone is invited to contribute whatever trivia, facts or recollections of ham radio's past that they can.
Even today, some our most common usage, nomenclature, procedures and traditions can only be traced back to murky origins and "folk lore".
Help preserve Ham Radio's past and help uncover some of our lost origins by sharing what you know about it today.

The TEMPE FREE(!) BOATANCHORS LIST:
To: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV
This is a GREAT list if you enjoy older amateur radio equipment.. Great group
of guys.
This E-mail list started in 1997 as an informal group for people in the DC and Baltimore areas and surrounding areas, that wished to keep in touch and communicate via the Internet.
Fairly soon the e-mailing group grew in size to 20-25 people, mostly radio amateurs enjoying collecting, operating, repairing, buying and selling older receivers and transmitters etc.,
The list is now maintained on the www.esosoft.net list server.
What is a Boatanchor?
Generally it is considered to be:
Larger, older tube type equipment of all kinds. Anything that is heavy and contains iron transformers! But the definition must be broad enough to include a lot of early, antique, vintage and JUNK radio equipment of almost any kind, military and commercial (grin!)
Who should join the list?
People interested in Boatanchors to want to connect with other hams in the Metro DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia and Baltimore area that enjoy the older rigs. Shortwave listeners and radio amateurs primarily.
(OK, all you PA & Delaware people can squeeze in too IF you are friendly about it!)
What is the DCBOATANCHORS list like?
We have a little informal list of all the DC AREA BOATANCHORS ENTHUSIASTS. It is an e-mailing list and not too complicated to learn how to use.
Most of the time the list has low traffic, but if someone hears of something good to do, sell, buy or needs help with something locally, we can all be in touch this way. Share your ideas and questions about the old rigs; please post hamfest information, and any news about BAs.

I would like to invite you to join a new e-mail group (eGroup), called
"European Boatanchors Swap List" (EuroBA Swap for short). This group, as
the name says, is mainly oriented to European people but, of course,
everybody can join it.
This group is focused to European Boatanchors users who want to buy, sell
or swap them (or related material as manuals, parts, ...) inside Europe
limits, mainly to save on shipping costs (you know, BA items are not
lightweight!). Of course, general messages about Boatanchors would be also
fine, but it is not the purpose of the group, as these are not limited to
European users.
This group could be also useful to help arranging shipping or to locally
examine items for other members (virtual eyes ;-)! ). Let's give the
fraternity a chance :-)!. I should say here that I have received great
support from people already in the EuroBA Swap List.

HEATH
From: "L-Soft list server at LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV (1.8c)"
HEATH-request@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV
Please save this message for future reference, especially if
this is the first time you subscribe to an electronic mailing
list. If you ever need to leave the list, you will find the
necessary instructions below. Perhaps more importantly,
saving a copy of this message (and of all future
subscription notices from other mailing lists) in a special
mail folder will give you instant access to the list of mailing
lists that you are subscribed to. This may prove very useful
the next time you go on vacation and need to leave the lists
temporarily so as not to fill up your mailbox while you are
away! You should also save the "welcome messages" from the
list owners that you will occasionally receive after
subscribing to a new list.
To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to
the list, just send mail to HEATH@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV. This is
called "sending mail to the list", because you send mail to a
single address and LISTSERV makes copies for all the
people who have subscribed. This address
(HEATH@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV) is also called the "list address".
You must never try to send any command to that address, as it
would be distributed to all the people who have subscribed. All
commands must be sent to the "LISTSERV address",
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV. It is very important to understand
the difference between the two, but fortunately it is not
complicated. The LISTSERV address is like a FAX number that
connects you to a machine, whereas the list address is like
a normal voice line connecting you to a person. If you make a
mistake and dial the FAX number when you wanted to talk to
someone on the phone, you will quickly realize that you used
the wrong number and call again. No harm will have been done.
If on the other hand you accidentally make your FAX call
someone's voice line, the person receiving the call will
be inconvenienced, especially if your FAX then re-dials every
5 minutes. The fact that most people will eventually connect the
FAX machine to the voice line to allow the FAX to go through
and make the calls stop does not mean that you should
continue to send FAXes to the voice number. People would just
get mad at you. It works pretty much the same way with
mailing lists, with the difference that you are calling
hundreds or thousands of people at the same time, and
consequently you can expect a lot of people to get upset if
you consistently send commands to the list address.
You may leave the list at any time by sending a "SIGNOFF
HEATH" command to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV. You can also
tell LISTSERV how you want it to confirm the receipt of
messages you send to the list. If you do not trust the system,
send a "SET HEATH REPRO" command and LISTSERV will send you a
copy of your own messages, so that you can see that the message
was distributed and did not get damaged on the way. After a
while you may find that this is getting annoying, especially
if your mail program does not tell you that the message is
from you when it informs you that new mail has arrived from
HEATH. If you send a "SET HEATH ACK NOREPRO" command,
LISTSERV will mail you a short acknowledgement instead, which
will look different in your mailbox directory. With most mail
programs you will know immediately that this is an
acknowledgement you can read later. Finally, you can turn off
acknowledgements completely with "SET HEATH NOACK NOREPRO".
Following instructions from the list owner, your
subscription options have been set to "NOFILES REPRO" rather
than the usual LISTSERV defaults. For more information about
subscription options, send a "QUERY HEATH" command to
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV.
Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You
can get a list of the available archive files by sending an
"INDEX HEATH" command to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV. You can
then order these files with a "GET HEATH LOGxxxx" command.
This list is available in digest form. If you wish to
receive the digested version of the postings, just issue a SET
HEATH DIGEST command.
Please note that it is presently possible for other people to
determine that you are signed up to the list through the
use of the "REVIEW" command, which returns the e-mail
address and name of all the subscribers. If you do not
want your name to be visible, just issue a "SET HEATH CONCEAL"
command.
More information on LISTSERV commands can be found in the
LISTSERV reference card, which you can retrieve by sending
an "INFO REFCARD" command to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TEMPE.GOV.

The purpose of this list is for selling, buying and trading of
tube type ham equipment and items reasonably associated with such
older, tube type gear. Within reason this includes a few instances of audio
equipment and domestic broadcast equipment. Associated items
includes parts, tubes, manuals, books, magazines. If a long
list of items is being posted, the inclusion of a piece of
solid state gear, is acceptable.
The discussion of pricing, packing and shipping in factual
manner is acceptable. This is not to mean that running discussions and arguments are
acceptable. Please reasonably minimize listing of items for sale without
prices. This is not intended to be an auction.
Please do not repeat messages. In Particular, the same want
list items should not be repeated more often than once every month or two.
Subscribers are REMOVED FROM THE LIST when reflected messages
sent to them frequently bounce. So, if you notice that you are no
longer getting messages from baswaplist, you may try
subscribing again.

Hi folks, VSS -or- Vintage Solid State is just what it sounds
like... The sand-state equivlent of BA...
Some minor differences:
More discussions of test equipment and less of ham radio
than BA. This is the place to find that HP or Tek part.
While Ham equipment is often discussed, please remember
60% of the VSS members are not hams and don't care about
signal reports, net announcments, the ARRL, code-vs-no code, or
any of the many other issues near and dear to hams...
>From time to time, you get to hear (read) my ongoing ramblings

before subscribing.
To submit materials:
bit bucket /n./
1. The universal data sink (originally, the mythical receptacle
used to catch bits when they fall off the end of a register
during a shift instruction). Discarded, lost, or destroyed data
is said to have `gone to the bit bucket'. On Unix, often used
for /dev/null. Sometimes amplified as `the Great Bit Bucket in
the Sky'.
2. The place where all lost mail and news messages eventually
go. The selection is performed according to Finagle's Law;
important mail is much more likely to end up in the bit bucket
than junk mail, which has an almost 100% probability of getting
delivered. Routing to the bit bucket is automatically performed
by mail-transfer agents, news systems, and the lower layers of
the network.
3. The ideal location for all unwanted mail responses: "Flames
about this article to the bit bucket." Such a request is
guaranteed to overflow one's mailbox with flames.
4. Excuse for all mail that has not been sent. "I mailed you
those figures last week; they must have landed in the bit
bucket." Compare black hole.
This term is used purely in jest. It is based on the fanciful
notion that bits are objects that are not destroyed but only
misplaced. This appears to have been a mutation of an earlier
term `bit box', about which the same legend was current; old-
time hackers also report that trainees used to be told that
when the CPU stored bits into memory it was actually pulling
them `out of the bit box'. See also chad box.
Another variant of this legend has it that, as a consequence of
the `parity preservation law', the number of 1 bits that go to
the bit bucket must equal the number of 0 bits. Any imbalance
results in bits filling up the bit bucket. A qualified computer
technician can empty a full bit bucket as part of scheduled
maintenance.
