The Tzanz dynasty was founded by Rav Chaim Halberstam, author of Divrei Chaim and a son-in-law of Rav Boruch Frankel Thumim, who wrote Boruch Taam. Rav Chaim had many children, including Rav Shulem Lazer of Ratzferd, who was murdered in the Holocaust; a daughter who married Rav Mottel Dov Twersky, the Admor of Hornisteipel; Rav Boruch of Gorlitz; Rav Nosson Halberstam, the father of Rav Shlomo, the first Bobover Rebbe; and Rav Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam, the Rebbe of Shiniv.
