Welcome to the WCBCH site. This site tracks the history of the women's college basketball national championships year by year, starting with the first CIAW and NWIT championships in 1969. Sites, seedings, scores...you'll find it all here. (Well, eventually....) As you can see, this page is always under some construction... please be patient!

Hi everybody! It's hard to believe that it has been an entire year. I have updated both the 2006 and 2007 tournament pages to reflect the final results. My next project is to go back and update the tournament records since 2005.

Once again, I would like to thank all of the Sports Information Directors who have shared information with me over the past few months. I would also like to give a special "thank you" to Linda Conn O'Keefe, who played for Towson State College (now Towson University) in the 1969 CIAW tournament, and who was invaluable in helping me complete the bracket for this inaugural tournament. If anyone else has information on any of the CIAW or AIAW tournaments, this will be very useful in making sure this site is as up-to-date and accurate as possible.

Interesting historical note - between 1969 (the first year with an organized women's national championship tournament) and 1999, there were only three years in which men's and women's teams from the same school both made the Final Four in the same year: Indiana in 1973, Georgia in 1983, and Duke in 1999. Since 1999, however, it has happened five years in a row: Oklahoma in 2002, Texas in 2003, Connecticut in 2004 (the only time a school has won the men's and women's championships in the same year), Michigan State in 2005, and Louisiana State in 2006.

I continue to work on information for the National Women's Invitational Tournament from its inception in 1969 through 1981. I am still trying to dig up information on the more recent NWIT tournaments, so if anyone has any relevant information, I would of course be more than happy to accept it and add it to the site!

As always, as you are looking through the site, if you find any discrepancies, please bring them to my attention. This information is all based on NCAA public records and newspaper coverage, but there may have been mistakes in transcriptions. Also, any suggestions/recommendation/game scores or results will be most welcome, especially information concerning the CIAW/AIAW years.
