* Georgia Championship Wrestling was renamed World Championship Wrestling in 1984.   Crockett's Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling merged with Georgia's WCW in 1985, and since then, Crockett's group had been known as WCW.  Crockett sold WCW to Ted Turner in 1988.  The NWA expressed concerns about WCW using the NWA name for their title when Sting won the NWA title from Ric Flair in 1990 since neither Turner nor his new organization were NWA members.  As a consequnce, WCW started using "WCW" for all their titles in January 1991 although they legally joined the NWA at the same time to avoid troubles.
