TOM ZENK
CHAMPION BODYBUILDER
MR MINNESOTA
In
July 1981, Tom Zenk scooped the pool at the Minnesota championships
taking out the Mr. Minnesota title in three divisions - Overall, Heavyweight
and Most Muscular.
Following
a year in retirement Tom Zenk returned to competition in the Fall
of 1982, winning Mr North Country in the Heavyweight Division.
Bodybuilding
segued into pro-wrestling when Tom was approached by 'Animal' of the Road
Warriors at a bodybuilding show. Animal suggested that Zenk try for a spot
in the Minneapolis based AWA. At the time Zenk was combining bodybuilding
with bouncing. AWA's fee of $750 a show seemed an attractive proposition.
He enrolled in Ed Sharkey's wrestling camp and the rest is history.
