Wishful Thinking

If Detroit could make a car that would get me home to see my mother,
If Bell could invent a phone where i could talk to her again,
If someone's hands could make her wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner,
At last, just wishful thinking.

Wayland hires policeman, turns attention to sewer plant
by JARRID DEATON
Staff Writer

WAYLAND ? The city of Wayland held an emergency meeting Wednesday to set a training date for new police officer Terry Hill, and to discuss new plans for the creation of a sewer plant for the city.
Mayor Tommy Murphy explained the class situation to Hill at the meeting. ?He can?t even sit in the car until he has taken the classes,? Murphy said. Also at the meeting, Bob Meyer, with the Southern Water and Sewer District, was present to explain the resolution to authorize the filing of an application to the Community Development Block Grant Public Facilities Program (CDBG) to be used for the Wayland Sewer Project.
?We are at another juncture. I know you are frustrated trying to get Wayland a new sewer,? Meyer said.
The new plan for the sewer is actually the the first plan originally formulated for the plant.
?We looked at taking the sewer to the plant at Martin, but the funding is not allocated and they want to see the money spent in the near term, not the long term,? Meyer said.

The original site for the plant is located in the town of Glo and will be placed on land that is probably owned by a coal company, according to the information that was provided to Meyer and the commissioners. ?CONSOL thinks that they own it, but they do not have the paperwork,? Meyer said.
Murphy said he would make some calls to see what information he could gather on who owns the land so the project can begin.
Meyer estimates that the cost of the project will be around $3 million, with the city of Wayland applying for $1 million in the CDBG grant.

Tilly Daniels and Billy Tom

If you look up "lady" in the dictionary, you will probably see Tilly Daniels' picture next to it. She was refined and lovely and I enjoyed her English classes more than any other. And hearing about Billy Tom was a real crusher. He was my childhood friend and schoolmate and I send my heartfelt sympathy to Kitty, their children and grandchildren and to his mother, Pauline.

Our hearts broke when we learned of Miss Daniels death. I think everyone will agree that with her passing a part of Wayland went with her. We would have been there with her Saturday but unfortunaly our cousin"s funeral, Billy Tom Turner, husband of Kitty Branham Turner, is also tomorrow in Monroe, Ohio. We will be with the family here but all of our hearts will also be with Miss Daniels. This lady influnced more peoples lives than anyone can ever know.I don't think a better teacher ever was in the state of Ky. She will be missed by all.

Bronley Williams

Bronley Williams passed away August 23, 2002.He was diagnosed with cancer in late February 2002.He is sadly missed by family and friends but will be remembered for his athletic, professional, and muscial abilities. He loved Wayland and everyone in it.

Anyone who knew Bronley, would agree that whenever he was around, he held a captive audience, whether it was spending hours and hours spinning stories about his childhood "back in the days at Wayland" or playing music. He was "forward-looking" to the future, but fascinated by things back in time. He was a bright light. His character and personality were strong. He chose optimism, happiness, and laughter.

I'm pretty sure his spirit will be at the 2002 Homecoming, because we all know how much he loved to be with his family and friends more than anywhere else. He's probably looking down on us right now, making some off the wall remark and joking that we waited until he passed away to have the homecoming. And I think he would tell us not to cry for him, that he's doing fine. He would want the band to play a blistering rendition of rock & roll in honor of his memory. I know he misses us, just as much as we miss him.

As he entered his last days, he cherished the words written on the get well cards he received, and the encouragements while we held his hand. The day Bronley passed away is the first day in my life that he ever made me sad. But I know he had the biggest heart in the world, because he made room inside his heart for all of us.

If there are some of you that we haven't thanked for helping our family through the shock of losing my uncle Bronley, we thank you now, and we only ask that you help keep his memory alive by remembering that he truly did love each and every one of us just as much as we loved him.
