Surging Aces Pound Fresno

Sergei Tkachenko stopped 34 of 35 shots and 6 different Aces scored goals as the Anchorage Aces pounded the Fresno Falcons 8-1 Tuesday at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California. Fresno scored the first goal, but the Aces scored 8 unanswered goals after that to blow out the South Division leaders.
The win improved the Aces to 14-6-0, and they move ahead of Colorado for second place in the North Division. The Aces have won 8 of their last 9, and are 6-1-0 on this 10 game road trip. The loss dropped the Falcons to 13-6-2, and they remain in first place in the South Division.
It was the second meeting between the two teams this road trip. The Aces won the first contest 8-4 and outscored the South Division leading Falcons 16-5 in the two games. The teams play again in Fresno on Sunday.
Fresno scored their lone goal early in the first period, it was Rushforth from Mathers at 2:08. Rowe scored on the power play at 6:28 and Wilcox scored his seventh of the year at 16:56, and the Aces had a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of the period, despite being outshot 16-11.
The Aces special teams was once again spectacular, stopping all 4 Fresno power plays, and scoring on 2 out of 6 power play chances. On the road trip, the Aces power play is 13 for 40, and is currently ranked #1 in the league. The Aces penalty kill has stopped 39 out of 44 power plays.
It took 18 minutes and 11 seconds for anyone to score a goal in the second period, but the Aces finally did. It was Yvan Corbin's 13th of the year at 18:11. Just 46 seconds later, Paul Williams extended the Aces lead to 3 goals assisted by Keith Street and Corbin.
Fresno appeared to give in during the third period, and didn't play super hard. This allowed the Aces to blow it open. Evgeny Kourlin scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season at 12:15 and 16:15. Corbin scored his second of the night and fourteenth of the year at 17:30, and Matt Ruchty scored the Aces final goal, his third goal as an Ace, on the power play at 19:31. Aces defenseman Wade Brookbank assisted on that play, and he became the last Ace on the team to score a point this season.
The Aces travel an hour and a half North by bus to take on the Bakersfield Condors for the first time this season Friday and Saturday, before they round out their road trip Sunday with another meeting with Fresno.
