Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
All-time N.B.A. scoring leader
Abdul-Jabbar, as Lew Alcindor won three straight N.C.A.A. championships while at U.C.L.A. He was the college Player of the Year in 1967 and 1969 and the outstanding player of the N.C.A.A. Tournament in 1967, '68 and '69. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks. Alcindor won the 1969-'70 Rookie of the Year award and with Oscar Robertson added to the team during the offseason, Abdul-Jabbar was the N.B.A. M.V.P., scoring champion, finals M.V.P. and won the N.B.A. Championship in 1970-'71. That offseason he converted to Islam and changed his name. Abdul-Jabbar was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975 and led the team to five N.B.A. championship (1979-80, '81-82, '84-85, '86-87 and '87-88). In his career he was an all-star 19 times, won the M.V.P. six times (1970-71, '71-72, '73-74, '75-76 and '79-80). He also won two scoring titles (1970-71 and '71-72) and led the league in rebounding in 1975-76. His career total of 38,387 points is the all-time N.B.A. record and he also totaled 17,440 rebounds and 3,189 blocked shots. Abdul-Jabbar was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995.
