Rick Barry
Member of the Basketball Hall of Fame
Barry attended the University of Miami and led the N.C.A.A. in scoring with 37.4 points per game in 1964-'65. He was drafted by the San Francisco Warriors and was the Rookie of the Year in 1965-'66. He led the league in scoring the following year with 35.6 points per game and was also the All-Star Game M.V.P. Following the season he attempted to move across the bay and play for the Oakland Oaks of the A.B.A. A court ruling blocked the move and Barry sat out the entire 1967-'68 season. He did play with the Oaks in 1968-'69, led the league in scoring with 34.0 points per game and led them to the A.B.A. Championship. The following season the team moved to Washington which did not please Barry. He was eventually traded to the New York Nets, but a court ruling forced him to return to the N.B.A. Golden State Warriors in 1972. He led the Wariors to the N.B.A. title in 1975 and was the N.B.A. Finals M.V.P. He played his final two seasons with the Houston Rockets before retiring in 1980. Including his A.B.A. career, Barry scored 25,279 points and had a free throw percentage of over 90%. He was Enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1980.
