Member of the Baseball Hall of Fame
Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989, Bench was selected to Major League Baseball's All-Century team and is widely regarded as the best catcher of all time. He reinvented the position defensively and won National League Rookie of the Year in 1968 and Most Valuable Player awards in 1970 and 1972. He led the "Big Red Machine" to six division titles, four pennants and two World Championships. Bench won the World Series Most Valuable Player award in 1976. He finished his career with 389 home runs and 1376 runs batted in. He finest season was 1970 when he hit 45 homers with 148 RBI.
