B: April 10, 1966
English soccer striker
A hard working striker who boasts a list of former clubs that looks like a who's who of English football. Scored the winning goals for Leicester City in the 1996 Play-off Final as well as the 1997 League Cup Final. A maverick figure who is currently dabbling in a touch of punditry on a variety of media outlets as well as penning novels about his elaborate career. Signed a new contract with Pompey that was to keep him at Fratton Park until he is 37. Got the chance to manage the club in the early part of the 2000/01 season when Tony Pullis was removed from his job. Things started off very brightly but then results took a downturn at the turn of the year. By March 2001 Pompey were slipping towards the relegation zone, and the board decided to bring in former Chelsea coach Graham Rix as the new boss. It immediately became aware that Claridge was unhappy with this and had to decide whether he would stay on the playing staff at at the south coast club. In the end it was Second Division high-fliers Millwall who won the race to sign the player on loan later that month.
