Bart Conner

Two-time Olympic Gymnastics Champion

Conner is the most accomplished male gymnast America has ever produced. He is the only American gymnast to win gold medals at every level of national and international competition. He is a junior national champion, an elite national champion, a Pan American Games champion, a World Cup champion (the first and still, only, American to win a gold medal at a World Cup event), a World champion, and finally an Olympic champion. In 1976, at age 18, he was the youngest member of the U.S. men's gymnastics team a year in which he captured the inagural American Cup (Nadia Comenici was the women's champion). He won the 1979 U.S. National all-around championship and subsequestly took the World Cup championships on the pommel horse and the parallel bars and became the world champion on the parallel bars. He capped his career at the 1984 Olympics, helping the U.S. team win an historic team gold medal, and adding another gold medal with a perfect "10" on the parallel bars. He subsequently married four-time Olympic champion Nadia Comenici. Conner was inducted in 1987 into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
